The Maynard triplets are headed to the Pacific.
Triplets Mandy, from left, Melissa and Erin Maynard will go on a 28-day Armed Forces Entertainment tour of military bases to sing for American troops.Missy, Mandy and Erin Maynard, former Westside High School students who were in the spotlight in 2005 when they auditioned for "American Idol," leave this morning for a 28-day Armed Forces Entertainment tour of military bases. The bases are in Japan, South Korea, Kwajalein Island and Guam.
The singers will tour alone and headline every show, which will feature local bands. The tour's first stop is Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, where the Maynards will sing at an outdoor festival expected to draw 10,000 to 20,000 people.
Danielle Schlegelmilch, the triplets' tour manager, said the 21-year-old sisters were selected for the tour in January. When the triplets sang at the Pentagon a few years ago, they were a big hit with the troops, she said.
"Everyone fell in love with them there," she said.
Missy said she and her sisters were excited by the chance to lift the spirits of American troops serving abroad.
"It's just been a whirlwind of emotion," she said. "When we got the opportunity to do this, we were more than excited to do our part and use our talents to support our troops."
